By Your Side - Creating a Caring Class Community

Brand new materials and lessons written and designed by ByME author Jane Martin for Primary teachers and pupils to use in the Autumn 2020 term.
 
Jane Martin completed her Master’s in Education with a focus on Creating a Caring Classroom Community. She taught in primary schools in California and Spain for 13 years before she became the author of ByME Arts and Crafts and Arts and Crafts Projects. Jane has teamed up with ByME once again to share these special resources and creative SEL (Social and Emotionaln Learning) Art Lessons to support, inspire and empower primary teachers and their students as they return to school.
 
Creative SEL (Social and Emotional Learning) Art Lessons
Designed to help your class re-connect, celebrate being back together and promote social-emotional wellbeing:
  • Each lesson includes an integrated social-emotional development warmer activity.
  • Each pupil creates their own individual piece of artwork which the teacher can join together to create a class piece of artwork.
These short, guided lessons are easy to set up and easy to fit into your Autumn term - use them in your Art class, your English class, or your class tutorial time.

Rules, Goals and Procedures
Resources to help you create a safe and connected environment in your classroom. Includes an overview of positive classroom managements techniques and steps to introduce safe routines in your class, as well as printable example posters and templates for you to personalise.

Heart Art - 1st and 2nd Grade

Lesson aims: 
Pupils create a personalised puzzle piece that can be joined to create a collaborative piece of artwork. This lesson encourages pupils to recognise and name their feelings, to participate in building a caring class community and to emphasize the importance and joy of connecting with others.

Superheroes - 3rd and 4th Grade

Lesson aims:
Pupils create personalised superhero pictures that can be joined together to form a collaborative piece of art that can be used as bunting or decorative frames. This lesson encourages pupils to identify and reflect on their own personal qualities and abilities that empower them to face challenges and overcome obstacles, and to value the importance of participating as individuals in a group.

Better Together - 5th and 6th Grade

Lesson aims:
Pupils create personalised patterns that can be joined together to form a collaborative piece of art. This lesson encourages pupils to see themselves as important parts of a bigger picture and to value and share their unique individual contribution. The mural represents unity and diversity and reinforces the importance of working together to create a better future.
