Edvard Munch: Archetypes

//15/10/19
The Museo Thyssen-Bornemisza, with the collaboration of the Munch Museum in Oslo is presenting the first exhibition devoted to the Norwegian artist held in Madrid since 1984. Edvard Munch is one of the founding figures of modern art.

Edvard Munch: Archetypes explores humankind’s emotional archetypes and existential obsessions, ranging from love and desire to illness and death. The exhibition is divided into nine sections structured around the representation of the human form in difference scenarios, including the seaside, the forest, the night, and the artist’s studio. Munch’s pictorial language is revealed in the expressive deformation of the human body, in the symbolism of colour, and in his use of experimental textures and techniques in printmaking.

Munch’s long and prolific career is represented by eighty works from the Munch Museum and from other collections such as the Tate and MoMA in New York. The exhibition will be open to the public until 17 January 2016. You can find more information here on the museum’s web page.
