The Xunta’s plan to promote foreign languages will see over 68,000 pupils learning non-linguistic subjects through foreign languages, predominantly English. The Galician President, Alberto Núñez Feijóo, has stated his commitment to extending the trilingual model in the four Galician provinces. In the school year 2013-14, 22,957 pupils will study in centros plurinlingües and 45,634 in bilingual sections. The number of centros plurinlingües will be expanded from the current level of 148 to a total of 183. Bilingual sections will see an increase of over 15% in the same period, reaching a total of 2,736 – four times more than in 2008-09.
